During the NATO exercise Trident Juncture 2015 the alliance will practice military interventions in North Africa

The NATO exercise Trident Juncture 2015 will take place during October 2015 and until early November in Italy, Portugal, and the State of Spain. According to a variety of sources, this will be the “largest exercise of NATO since the end of the Cold War”¹, “largest exercise conducted by the Alliance since 2002” (…) and “the Alliance’s most important exercise in 2015”², or “the largest deployment of the Alliance in the last decade”³. The exercise consists of two clearly distinguished phases, a command post exercise (CPX, 3-16 October) and a phase of real action (Live Exercise, LIVEX, 21 October-6 November).

The campaign Stop New Nuclear in Britain has to be seen in the wider context of plans for nuclear new build in Britain, and a very decentralised anti-nuclear energy movement in the country.

At the very latest since 2006 the UK government was pushing for the construction of up to ten new nuclear power stations in the country.

On 28 November Howard Clark, pacifist, anarchist, chair of War Resisters' International, friend, and so many more things, died unexpected of an heart attack. It is only slowly sinking in that Howard, who has been an important companion during the last 20 years of my life, is no longer with us.

First of all I want to thank Cynthia for giving me the opportunity to say something today, although I haven't read the whole book yet.

I am familiar with her research, as WRI is one of the organisations which were part of her research. I think we very much welcomed it when she approached us a few years ago, and we are thankful for the challenge this posed, and for being pushed to reflect on the challenges of integrating feminism and gender into our antimilitarist practice. When Cynthia called me earlier this week and asked me to talk today, it had a similar effect again.

Repression in (post)-revolutionary Egypt

On 7 March, a few weeks after the resignation of Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak, Maikel Nabil Sanad wrote this sentence in a detailed article on his blog [1]. In this article he analysed in detail the role of the Egyptian military during and after the revolution, and came to the conclusion that the people and the military never “were one hand” - as people said so often during the revolution.
