How People Get Power

Author:

"How People Get Power is essential reading that connects with the most important question of our time: how to enable ordinary citizens to be fully participant members in a democratic society." (Paul David Wellstone)

How People Get Power is a book about community organizing, written for organizers. It is mostly based on the experiences of Si Kahn as an organizer in the rural South of the USA.

"This is a book for people who believe in people, in their dignity, in their determination, in their capabilities", writes Si Kahn in his preface. "It is for those who believe deeply that the problems of poor people will be solved by poor people working together."

The book deals with issues such as power, community, organizing, leadership, communication, among others. While very much based on the US context, it nevertheless has some interesting insights useful far beyond the US.
